6 Best London Historic Sites
6 Best London Historic Sites
London has a history of 2000 years, and that comes with many impressive history sites! In fact, it would be fair to say that London is deeply rooted in history, which means there is plenty to explore. So, we have unveiled six of London’s top historical sites, in the hope that you will visit and enjoy them all.
Westminster Abbey
Located near Big Ben, Westminster Abbey is a beautiful historic building, always worth a visit! The gothic style architecture will surely leave a mark, and the site has been the site of many national events. And wedding ceremonies – even in recent memory. Fact: Charles Darwin, William Shakespeare, and Stephen Hawking are buried here!
Buckingham Palace
Well, you can’t miss the amazing Buckingham Palace. If you visit this historic website, enjoy the breath of surprise in the luxurious rooms, and indulge in a long history of our royal family! The palace gardens provide a wonderful place to relax and unwind, too.
Tower of London
The Tower of London has a rich history of crowns and gemstones, but also a grim reality of the medieval massacre. This historic site was a major factor in Tudor’s history, and it is now one of the most powerful symbols of the imperial power!
Built in 1066 during the conquest of the Roman of England, if there is anywhere in London you can visit, this should be the first on your list.
St Paul’s Cathedral
First built in 1666, St Paul’s Cathedral was managed – rather surprisingly! – surviving the Great Fire of London. The buildings here are clear English Baroque, and you can climb hundreds of rocky stairs to get to the top. Here, you will find an amazing view of London!
This is a climb that will surely be worth it.
Mansion House
Located near the Bank tube station, the Mansion House is conveniently located in the city center. This is the residence of the King of London, and its magnificent construction of the year 1846! Created by skilled architect James Bunning, visit here and stand in awe at the high columns in the sky with intricate sculptures.
Fourth Plinth
If you want to enjoy your trip with a little fun, consider visiting Fourth Plinth! Although often overlooked, this is one of London’s most humorous (and most popular) historical sites. Check out the Plinth, located on the four sides of the Trafalgar square: it’s the perfect combination of historical value and artistic design! Artists create amazing inserts to sleep on this bare foundation every year or two, most striking the blue rooster.
If you need accommodation while exploring all the historical value offered by London, Aldgate is a great hotel destination. Aldgate was actually a very eastern gate through the wall of London, from the city center to Whitechapel and the East End of London! There is no better place to stay, if you would really like to connect with old London.
